Fees for background checks

AusCheck fees

​​The table below shows AusCheck individual fees for:

  • Aviation Security Identification Cards (ASICs)​
  • Maritime Security Identification Cards (MSICs)
  • Major National Events (MNEs)
  • National Health Security (NHS)
  • Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI)
  • Global Entry program.

AusCheck charges all fees per individual and are not subject to GST.

If fees change, AusCheck will consult with industry participants.​

Applications received from issuing bodies and other entities

For each application AusCheck will invoice the appropriate:

  • issuing body
  • responsible entity
  • NHS entity
  • organising body for each application processed.

Issuing bodies and entities set the amount they will charge and collect from applicants. They may include the AusCheck fees with their own administrative costs when setting the final application charge.

Administration costs may vary between issuing bodies and entities.

Cost recovery

AusCheck operates on a cost recovery basis. Any fees we collect cover the actual cost of providing our service.

This process represents an ongoing commitment by the Australian Government to ensure that fair and accurate costs are recovered from those who pay for its services.

Refund of AusCheck fees

AusCheck charges fees to conduct background checks and issue security identification cards.

Refunds will only be made in limited circumstances where AusCheck has not, or will not, incur expenses. Refunds are not automatic or guaranteed and may not cover the total fee paid.

AusCheck can only consider requests for a refund after an applicant has withdrawn or cancelled their background check application.

To cancel or withdraw your background check application, please contact your issuing body (for ASICs or MSICs) or AusCheck.

To request a refund:

  1. complete the refund application form [PDF 159KB]
  2. mail the form to PO Box 25 Belconnen ACT 2617 OR email the form to AusCheck@homeaffairs.gov.au
