Apply for a Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identity Card (NSSIC)

About the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identification Card (NSSIC)

A Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identification Card (NSSIC) is a physical card that shows you had a valid background check, with no relevant criminal offences

It’s also an access card that gives you unescorted access to Osborne Naval Shipyard.

Organisations (called responsible entities) at Osborne Naval Shipyard decide whether to issue you an NSSIC. Our background check is part of the process.

Possible results

We'll let you and your responsible entity know when your Critical Infrastructure Background Check Outcome (CIBCO) is ready.

Your CIBCO is a digital record of your background check result. It includes:

  • your name and photograph
  • the date you applied for our background check
  • details of any relevant criminal offences
  • whether the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has issued an adverse or qualified security assessment
  • whether you have the right to work in Australia.

If we find relevant criminal offences, you’ll have a chance to respond to us before we make a final decision. Find out how we handle unfavourable results.

Your responsible entity uses the CIBCO to help them decide whether to issue you an NSSIC. They’ll tell you when your NSSIC is ready to collect.

If you aren’t issued an NSSIC

If you disagree with the decision not to issue an NSSIC, contact your responsible entity.
